Il 16 dicembre si celebrano i 250 anni dalla nascita di Jane Austen, una delle scrittrici più amate e influenti della letteratura inglese. Con ironia sottile, profondità psicologica e uno sguardo acuto sulla società del suo tempo, Austen ha saputo raccontare l’amore, le convenzioni sociali e il desiderio di autodeterminazione attraverso romanzi che ancora oggi affascinano lettori di ogni età.
Personaggi indimenticabili come Elizabeth Bennet ed Emma Woodhouse rendono la sua opera sorprendentemente moderna. A 250 anni dalla sua nascita, Jane Austen continua a parlarci con la stessa freschezza di allora, ricordandoci il potere intramontabile della buona letteratura.

Abstract: These three short works show Austen experimenting with a variety of different literary styles, from melodrama to satire, and exploring a range of social classes and settings. The early epistolary novel "Lady Susan" depicts an unscrupulous coquette, toying with the affections of several men. In contrast, "The Watsons" is a delightful fragment, whose spirited heroine - Emma - finds her marriage opportunities limited by poverty and pride. Meanwhile "Sanditon", set in a seaside resort, offers a glorious cast of hypochondriacs and spectators, treated by Austen with both amusement and scepticism.
